Description
“Sunset & Formosa” by DJ Dister, an instrumental affair, the project was entirely inspired by Berlin native Dister’s current home of Los Angeles.
Speaking on the album “the album title is the street corner where I live and make beats in L.A. Looking out the window, interacting with that environment, catching the vibe of the city at each point of the day and night you can definitely hear what mood I was in when I made each track.” Those moods range from the ethereal electric piano glissando’s and lush strings of “Downtown” to the bass thumps and rolling drums of “Traffic” and the smoky horns and turntable scratches of “Alleyways.”
U.S. fans of Dister, probably came across one of his boom-bap centric producer albums including 2013’s “Roll Wit Dis” which featured appearances from Masta Ace, Kool G Rap, KRS-One and Fashawn and others. 2015″s “Consistent Knockouts” featuring Jeru The Damaja and eMC and 2017’s full-length with legendary Detroit emcee Phat Kat, “The S.O.S. Project.”
However his resume in hip-hop stretches back close to two decades as a strong part of the Berlin, Germany true-school hip-hop scene. In 2005 as part of the Born 2 Roll crew, he helped to organize the Born 2 Roll night, a monthly event at the Cassiopeia Club. This popular event drew thousands of attendees for over a decade and also drew performances from such names as KRS-One and De La Soul.
